Prancer: Black or Dark Brown

Model #P40 was advertised as Black or Dark Brown Prancer in the 1956-57 and 1960-62 catalogs, and as Black Beauty in the 1958-59 catalog. There was no solid black Prancer with gold hooves like #44 Western Pony Black Beauty.

These models were all made from either white, black or dark brown plastic and had a glossy appearance. The four socks were usually painted on, but some could be unpainted white plastic, and could have black, grey or white hooves. The face has a stenciled V-shaped star or blaze, or an un-stenciled bald face. The mane and tail were the same color as the body, but the tail could be white tipped. The breast collar, saddle trim, and bridle could be silver or gold with brass chain reins. This rider-less release had a black hard plastic Western saddle with tapaderos. This saddle had either the high or low grommet snap-on cinch. In 1956-1957, a brown hard plastic English saddle with removable red saddle blanket was available.

This color Prancer was released with the Western, English, Cavalry and Paper saddles. For more information and photos on the saddle differences, please see this record: https://www.breyerhorseref.com/node/51225.

Typically the models with silver trim are also the models with the white tail tip, and are referred to as the Black Beauty Prancers. See separate record.

This model with the solid black tail is usually found with the Canadian Mountie, Davy Crockett and Kit Carson Rider sets. See separate records.

The Fury model #27 is very similar, but there are subtle differences - see separate record for that model.

Originally had no Copyright Stamp, then around 1960 the round Breyer Molding Co Copyright Stamp was added.
