"Our First 2026 Special Run Reveal! Back in November, we talked about the significance of Midsummer celebrations in the Nordic countries and how this day is still widely celebrated today. Festivities include the lighting of bonfires, making flower crowns, feasting, revelry, and in Sweden, the raising of the Maypole!
The significance of the celebration of the summer solstice was culturally important across the world and can be traced back to the Neolithic era (Stonehenge comes to mind!) with other archaeological evidence dating back to ancient Rome, Mayan civilization, and Native tribes in North America. Today, in addition to being a culturally Nordic festival, many neopagans also delight in celebrating the longest day of the year with Midsummer festivities. Litha, as the event is known in Germanic neopagan circles, comes from Bede’s Reckoning of Time in which the Anglo-Saxon names for the June and July summer months were known as “līða” (pronounced “lee-tha”).
