This model is based on the book "Black Beauty: The Autobiography of a Horse" written by Anna Sewell. Black with four socks estimated to have only been available 1979-1980. A lesser known variation is a right hind sock available in 1981, and then the majority of the run from 1982-1988 had the right fore sock. Hooves are usually grey with the socks, however some models have grey hooves with all black legs. This was also the first model to be produced in the New Jersey factory after Reeves International purchased Breyer in 1984. Has the round Breyer Molding Co Copyright Stamp only, and some models have a B Stamp, which signifies a different plastic blend was used for the mold.
The 1979-1980 Catalogs show model with four socks, the 1981 Catalog shows the right hind sock, and after that the right fore sock is shown in 1982-1988 catalogs. The 80's Yellow Border Box shows a sock on the left front leg, which may have been a test or very few made, and there is a known model with a left front sock and right back sock. None of the 80's Yellow Border Boxes (1979-1980) showed a 4 sock version.
Model was also released as #49C21128 in 1979 through Sears with a horse stable blanket, and in 1980, this model was released through JC Penney.
