Grey Appaloosa with black splatter spots, black mane and tail, dark charcoal or black legs, and bald face with grey or pink nose and ears. Early models (estimated 1960-1961) had a 'big blanket' pattern where the white includes the belly and butt. There was a more common 'belly striped' variation found on glossy models (estimated 1961-1967) that had the white blanket wrapping around the belly with a grey butt and hindquarters. The 'small blanket' variation (estimated 1967-1970) was found on both matte and glossy models, and had a smaller blanket where the white is just on the butt and down the back legs. Spots varied in size and amount.
The name 'Speck' was dropped by the 1969 catalog. Models were advertised in a matte finish in the later 1968 catalog. Originally had the round Breyer Molding Co Copyright Stamp, and around 1970, the USA Stamp was added.
From 1968-1970, the touch-ability boxes #38SP were used, and in 1970, this model appeared in the Showcase Collection boxes #380. Both sizes of the blue ribbon stickers were used.
