"A hippodrome was the stadium for chariot and horse racing in ancient Greece. This stadium-type structure had a U-shaped racecourse and could seat hundreds of spectators. Some were quite large allowing for 10 chariots to race side by side. Spectators would come from all over the region to see the exciting, fast-paced races and other gladiatorial events and parades that would be held. Hippodromes were found in various parts of Greece, including Delos, Olympia, and Nemea.
