"Our next release for 2022 is Sandman, a fresh and modern take on Chris Hess’ Smoky mold. Smoky, inspired by the titular horse of Will James’ novel Smoky the Cow Horse, was first released in 1981. When sculpting this model, Mr. Hess took heavy inspiration from the illustrations included in James’ novel to create the dynamic and unique pose for Breyer’s model of Smoky. It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen this fellow in a loud, realistic color, so we sought to remedy that with Sandman. Sandman is painted as a red dun overo with leg barring, a dorsal stripe, and a high gloss finish. For a fun throwback, his packaging is inspired by that of the original Smoky: a classic 80s-style hat box.
