There were two distinct versions of this model:
One version is made with either white or black plastic. Models have 4 stockings that are either painted white or are bare white plastic, grey hooves, black mane and tail and the tail tip is white, bald face, some have eye whites, silver bridle, breast collar and saddle trim. This rider-less release had a black hard plastic Western saddle with tapaderos with either the high or low grommet snap-on cinch.
The other version is made with either white or black/brown plastic. Models have 4 stockings that are either painted white or are bare white plastic, black hooves, solid black/brown mane and tail, and a diamond star (or small blaze) which is either painted white or bare white plastic. The bridle and breast collar are gold trimmed, and the saddle is the dark brown or black snap-on Western saddle with gold trim. An uncommon variation is all black legs.
Advertised as 'Black Beauty' in the 1956-1959 catalogs, and just as Black Western Pony from 1960-1962. Western Pony #44 from 1953-1955 was originally called 'Black Beauty' and typically, Breyer has referred to the #44 all black model as 'Black Beauty' and so it is labelled as such for this database. See separate record for #44.
This color Western Pony was released with the Western, Cavalry and Indian saddles. For more information and photos on the saddle differences, please see this record: https://www.breyerhorseref.com/node/51188.
Indian (#240) and Kit Carson (#540) sets in separate records.
