This is the earliest variation of the Alabaster Western Horse, but this model has cream colored plastic and either an unpainted or an 'antique' varnish mane and tail with black hooves. The varnish on these models was very fragile and easily cleaned off. Early models had only gold studs on the bridle; whereas, later models had all gold bridles and going forward the next Alabaster release in 1952 was pictured in the catalog with an all gold bridle.
The high grommet saddles are dark brown with whitewash or goldwash. Some early models had felt pads that were cut into a shape just larger than the saddle, or they had little felt circles that went behind the grommet, as the high grommets could scratch the model. The reins are the O-Link style, and early models had a 'pin-clip' attachment to the reins. The 'pin-clips' are estimated to have been available 1950-52, as seen in the 1952 catalog/sell sheet. This model was available standalone or attached to the Mastercrafters clocks. Estimated that these clocks were sold by Breyer between 1950-1953.
The name 'Cream Puff' originated in an ad by Hartland Plastics for their Victor model (see separate record). For a long time Breyer collectors thought the Victor model was a Breyer, so the name stuck to describe this early version of the Alabaster Western Horse.
