Five Gaiter: Sorrel aka Commander

Sorrel with bald face, 4 socks with grey hooves, darker mane and tail, and white mane ribbon with red crisscross. Sorrel color varies from light to dark, and some models have reddish tones. Early models had eye whites (most eye whites had ended by 1969). At some point during the 1970's the end of the tassel seen over the mane was cut off.

An uncommon variation is a glossy finish, which may have been applied to old Decorator and Woodgrain models that were repainted the sorrel color. These were most likely made early in the run, and they appear to have eye whites.

Originally had the round Breyer Molding Co Copyright Stamp and the CHESS Stamp, around 1970 the USA Stamp was added, and some models have a B Stamp, which signifies a different plastic blend was used for the mold. In 1970-1972 model was released in the Showcase Collections boxes as #520. Still researching if model was ever released in the 1982-1985 White Border box.

From 1961-1968, this mold was called 'Commander - The Five Gaiter' and after that was just referred to as 'Five Gaiter' or 'Five Gaited'.
