Released through Montgomery Ward with paperback book "Black Gold" by Marguerite Henry. The horse in the story had a small star, like the model pictured in the catalog. However, that appears to have been a test model as all models released were all black with no white markings, and light brown hooves.
Per Nancy Young's 5th Edition of "Breyer Horses, Riders, & Animals Molds & Models", Bentley Sales had received 334 of these models in March of 1986 and released them as #67BG. It is also estimated that a couple hundred would have been sold by Montgomery Ward.
Side note - The box pictured with the model looks like a leftover box; it was stamped xx-2210 from the 1984/85 JCP Pinto Mare/Foal Set, and factory packing tape covered up the 1984 Sears Andalusian Family xx-21051. Not positive this was the box the model originally came with.
