Glossy honey or caramel bay with black or charcoal brown mane and tail, no black on the legs, 4 stockings with dark grey or black hooves, and a short blaze. Some models have the dark grey lip line. Many models had eye whites. Uncommon variation is stockings only on the front legs. This mold was not called 'Proud Arabian Mare' until 1971.
This mold was copied from a Maureen Love sculpture, produced by Hagen-Renaker. Breyer used that mold until 1960, but then had to stop production until negotiations with Hagen-Renaker were completed. In 1971, Chris Hess slightly reworked this mold and Breyer was able to re-release it. Changes included the left legs being slightly moved (splayed) out. As a result, this original version is often referred to as the 'Old Mold PAM'.
Set #16 included the Bay Family Arabian Stallion, Bay Proud Arabian Mare and Bay Proud Arabian Foal; Set #18 included the Bay Proud Arabian Mare and Bay Proud Arabian Foal; and, Set #17 included a Bay Proud Arabian Mare and Bay Family Arabian Stallion. Each of these sets later included the Family Arabian Mare and Foal.
See other record for the chalky variation.
